International record label Universal has signed choirs from Weybridge and Esher in a multi album record deal.

Members of the Weybridge and Esher Rock Choirs will be among the thousands that will feature on the first album, which is due to be released later in 2010.

The concept of Rock Choir is that anyone with a passion for singing can join one without auditioning or being able to read music.

A family fun event is being held at Elmbridge Museum on Saturday, February 13 where children can be an architect for a day.

Children are being invited down to the museum, in Church Street, in Weybridge to make scale models of buildings.

Two free sessions will be held, from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm.

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ahead of the Surrey Youth Games this summer, Elmbridge council is offering free training sessions for any child who lives or goes to school in the borough.

From March, children will be able to take part in a wide variety of sports including badminton, basketball, boccia, girls cricket, football, hockey, judo, netball, squash, swimming, tag rugby and tennis all for free.

These are called 'Give it a Go!' sessions.

The Seven Hills Road will be closed for 12 weeks now instead of seven months, after residents made their fears known.

The original period of seven months was changed by Southern Gas Networks (SGN), who will be undertaking the work, to 12 weeks after spending many hours talking to residents about their concerns of extra traffic in the area, which would have come as a result of the road being closed.

A public exhibition is being held on Friday, November 27 detailing the plans of the controversial seven month closure of Seven Hills Road.

Being held at the Hilton Hotel, in Seven Hills Road South,Cobham, from 11am to 8pm, all residents are welcome to view the plans and ask questions about the closure.

The busy road is being closed from Monday, December 28, while Southern Gas Networks replace gas mains and a new main is laid.

Details about diversion routes while the road is closed will also be on display.

Residents in Elmbridge will be commemorating Remembrance Sunday on November 8.

full day of events is taking place across the borough to help raise money for the British Legion's annual poppy appeal.

The first official Legion poppy day was held in Britain on November 11, 1921 inspired by the poem 'Flanders' Fields' written by John McCrae.

After the fighting in World War One in the Flanders and Picardy regions of Belgium and Northern France, the poppy was the only thing which grew in the aftermath.

In Cobham a parade followed by a service is taking place at St Andrews Church, in Downside Bridge Road, at 10.20am.

The service will start at 10.45am.

A community table top sale is being organised for Sunday November 29 at Cobham Village Hall, in Lushington Drive, Cobham, to raise money for St John Ambulance and the 1st Cobham Scouts.

Elmbridge council is holding a consultation for parents in the borough to find out families views on holiday activities for children.

The consultations will be available to collect from libraries, the Xcel leisure complex, in Waterside Drive, Walton, children's centres, schools and the council's website, at www.elmbridge.gov.uk

The council want to know if families are happy with holiday activities, if there is one holiday scheme provider that children love most and what families do with their free time during the holidays.

Musicians got together for their first rehearsal on Tuesday (September 22) for the launch of the Elmbridge Community Big Band.

The choirs from Notre Dame Senior School in Cobham will be performing at Westminster Cathedral in London on Saturday September 26.
