Painshill fire station was brimming with parents and children on Saturday (22) as an open day was held to promote the emergency services.

As well as fire demonstrations such as what happens when water is poured on chip fires, police community support officers were on hand at the station in Gavell Road, Cobham to show children how they finger print suspects, as well as giving out goody bags.

St John's Ambulance was also at the open day between 11am and 4pm to show families what they do on a weekly basis.

Ray Pennock, of St John Ambulance, said: "It was nice to have children in the back of an ambulance without them being injured. It was a good day, there was a lot of support. It was a nice event that brought the community together."

Walton fire station, in Hersham Road, will be holding an open day featuring demonstrations and activities on Saturday, August 29 from 12 noon until 4pm.

We'd like to hear from you.
